The world’s largest choreographed fountain has undergone renovation. From October 2025, it returns with even more dazzling effects, music, and technology.
In the very heart of modern Dubai, at the foot of the Burj Khalifa and next to the magnificent Dubai Mall, lies the impressive choreographed fountain – the Dubai Fountain. Its story is one of ambition, technology, and artistry tied to the city’s vision.
The fountain was conceived as part of the grand Downtown Dubai project, designed to add another iconic landmark to the city. Construction began around 2008, led by the American company WET Design, the same firm behind the famous fountains in Las Vegas.
The official debut took place on May 8, 2009, alongside the opening of Dubai Mall. It quickly became renowned as the world’s largest choreographed fountain system – stretching 275 meters in length and capable of shooting water jets up to 152 meters high.
Each show combines water, light, and music – from traditional Arabic tunes to classical pieces and global hits. More than 6,600 lights and 25 projectors create thousands of lighting patterns and effects.
Renovation in 2025
After years of continuous operation, the time came for major restoration. In February 2025, developer Emaar announced the fountain’s closure for five months for modernization and technical upgrades. The final show before the shutdown took place on April 19, 2025.
The renovation included:
Repairs to the concrete foundation and enhanced waterproofing
Upgrades to pumps, nozzles, and water mechanics
Modernization of lighting and sound systems with new visual effects
Updates to choreography and musical programming
The goal was not only technical reliability but also aesthetic innovation, ensuring the fountain feels fresh and continues to amaze visitors. The official reopening date was set for October 1, 2025. From then, regular performances return:
Afternoon shows at 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM (weekdays)
Evening shows every 30 minutes between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM (longer on weekends)
With upgraded technology, enhanced choreography, and more striking visual effects, the fountain is set to reclaim its role as a symbol of Dubai’s innovation and beauty.
